Fincher goes '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'

David Fincher (who you may know as the director of a couple small films like ‘Fight Club’ and this years ‘The Social Network’) has been officially announced today as the director of Disney’s ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.’

Many may remember Disney’s 1954 version of the 19th century Jules Verne adventure, when it starred a singing Kirk Douglas as Captain Nemo. Although, I’m fairly certain that Fincher’s will not have any show stopping tunes, I wonder if he will be able to make his version with Disney looking over his shoulder.

The Se7en director is know for his darker, more adult orientated pictures, and although Disney has been inching in that direction for the last few years with some of it’s properties, this still seems like a strange pairing.

David Fincher’s last few films included ‘Zodiac’ with Jake Gyllenhaal, ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, with Brad Pitt, and this years Facebook hit, ‘The Social Network.’He is also finishing up on the American version of ‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’ so it could easily be 2012 or 2013 before we see this.

What do you think? Are you excited to see a darker 20,000 Leagues?
